Digging into my archives - Puffins on Handa Island

Since we started storing photos on hard drives or in the cloud we all have images that have been stored away and forgotten. I thought it was time to dig into my lightroom catalogue and use some  of those long forgotten files.
Two subjects I thought were worth bringing into the light are Puffins and Ptarmigan.
Some time ago I took a trip to Handa Island on the north coast of Scotland to visit the puffin colony that the island is famous for.
The ptarmigan will come later.

Puffins don't seem to mind being close to people
On Handa it's very easy to get up close to the puffins, although a 400mm lens does help.

Puffins are excellent photographic subjects

I can't remember why, but this puffin certainly looks angry
The only problem we encountered on the trip was the fact that, once we left the mainland on the boat to travel over to Handa, there were no public toilets. You are asked to remain on the footpaths, which on a busy day means you are always in plain view of other visitors. But still worth a visit if in in the north of Scotland.

This puffin seemed as interested in us as we were in it
